Busy Times
Plymouth Armed Forces Day is a hugely popular family event, however, which we want to make accessible to all. We understand that some visitors may prefer to visit during quieter times. These being the earlier part of day, before lunchtime.
Chill out zone
Take some time out in the Sensory Garden (beside Osbourne Place entrance) on Plymouth Hoe where you can soak up the atmosphere of Armed Forces Day, while relaxing away from the hustle and bustle. You will also find some less busy spaces along the lower grassy areas of the Hoe. Please note there will be a RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast at 3pm (subject to weather and any unforeseen circumstances).
Viewing area for entertainment
There is a designated viewing area for people with access needs, to view the main stage and the main arena. Pre-booking is not required, as it will run on a first come, first served basis. This will be shown on the map, which you can see below.

Information points
​During Armed Forces Day, there will be an information kiosk inside the entrance of the Veteran’s Village Marquee where you can pick up a free programme or general information.
​
There will be many stewards across the event on Plymouth Hoe, who will always be very happy to help. They will be wearing yellow high viz tabards so please ask them if you have any questions.
Toilets
There are toilets and accessible toilets for visitors located near the Plymouth Naval Memorial, on the way onto Plymouth Hoe. There is also accessible toilets on the other end of Plymouth Hoe (toward Elliot Street). The Hoe’s new permanent public toilets include six unisex toilets, with one additional accessible toilet and large, accessible changing room. This means the new facilities can be used safely and comfortably by all people with disabilities.

Safe Spaces
There are a number of registered safe spaces near to Plymouth Hoe.

A Safe Place offers help if someone is anxious, scared or at risk while they are out and about and need support. You can visit the safe spaces website for more information: Search Safe Places. You can also speak with our stewards and events team who will be identifiable by their hi-vis and lanyards.
Sensory Needs
Prepare yourself for the busy crowds, loud noises, live music and fun bright atmosphere. Some people may wish to bring ear defenders. Sunglasses are also helpful for really bright lights on the stage, but if these aren’t doable just look down at the floor when they’re too bright.

Head to the more open spaces at the side of the main viewing areas, or make use of the designated viewing area. Please speak to one of our stewards or security that will be in hi-vis if you need any help.
Blue Badge Parking
Disabled parking is available in Ballard House car park (West Hoe Road, PL1 3BJ) for approximately 30 car parking spaces for blue badge holders, plus the use of on-street parking.
The No 25B bus will continue to run from the city centre around the waterfront throughout the day until 7pm on Saturday. A one way ticket for the shuttle bus will be £2 for any accompanying passengers with military personal/cadets/vets etc. There will be diversions in place for the Strength of Spirit Games on Thursday 25 June.

Access Plymouth
Plymouth Armed Forces Day takes place on Plymouth Hoe, which is accessible to all with wide tarmac paths. All paths are suitable for wheelchairs and prams. There are grassy areas too and some seating.
British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreted Performance
We are featuring a qualified BSL interpreter on the main stage for the evening concert. They will be present from around 5.30pm, covering the live music schedule. This service is provided by Complete Communications Ltd.
British Sign Language interpreted performances are performances where an interpreter is on stage interpreting the words and songs live. They are suitable for:

Those with family members who use British Sign Language.

People with an interest in British Sign Language.
