This family-friendly event has an action packed programme for all the family to enjoy, on Saturday 24 June.
Plymouth Armed Forces Day, in association with Babcock, will start at 9.30am, and has a host of activities to keep all the family entertained, from military vehicles and equipment to live music throughout the day. This will include military bands, children's choirs, samba bands, wind and brass bands, plus the fabulous Military Wives Choir and the Plymouth International Chorus. Test your driving skills with the Police Formula 1 Simulator, or visit the Fire & Rescue Service's crash trailer and vintage fire engines which will be on display. You will see an exciting arena programme with Cadet Drill displays, the Senior Field Gun competition as well as the Royal Marines Unarmed Combat Display, to name a few. There will be Junior Field Gun competitions, with 11 schools competing throughout the day, to win the all- important Tournament Trophies. Come along to the Veteran's Village and find out about Plymouth's historic links with the military, or meet the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS) who are celebrating the centenary of the formation of the WRNS, and hear about their fascinating experiences over the years. There will be a thrilling air display from 4.20pm to 6.05pm, where you will see the dynamic mix of jets and aerobatic displays. The entertainment continues throughout the evening with a fantastic evening concert, starting at 6pm and finishing at 10.30pm.
The Band of HM Royal Marines Plymouth will start the entertainment with a great mix of musical ensembles. Followed by the Harmonettes, Joey the Lips, then headline act, Toyah Wilcox and band, who will be performing her classic hits and anthems for everyone to enjoy. In addition to this spectacular event, lots of local businesses are offering fantastic discounts and special offers for Serving Military Personnel and Veterans. With over 25 shops and restaurants in Drake Circus offering a weekend of discounts, free bus travel on Plymouth Citybus and Stagecoach on 24 June, and 25 per cent off food and drink in the Crowne Plaza open lobby.
